BIOSECURITY AND HANDLING MANAGEMENT OF LOCAL CHICKEN DISEASE

I n general, so that it isthe local chicken cultivation has not followed "good management practice" so that it is very susceptible toward the attack of various diseases. Therefore, the restructurization of animal husbandry management is very needed as one of the attemps to cut the main chain of dissemination of disease among birds and between bird to human.
The main objectives of biosecurity are for 1) minimizing the disease existence, 2) minimizing the opportunity of disease agent related to adoptive mother, and 3) making the environment communication level by disease agent as minimal as possible. The biosecurity consists of three components i.e. conceptual biosecurity (based on the entire disease prevention program), structural biosecurity (location and spatial of animal husbandry/farm), and operational biosecurity (management procedure of prevention and dissemination of the disease infection). The disease handling on local chicken comprises of control and removal to prevent the appearing of disease and lessen the detriment due to disease attack. The removal of local chicken disease is conducted with test and slaughter, test and treatment and stamping out methods. The often occurring diseases on local chicken are New Castle Disease (ND), Bird Flu (Avian Influenza), Chronic Respiratory Disease (CRD), Gumboro (Infectius Bursal Disease), Fowl Pox, Pullorum, Snot (Infectious Coryza), and Coccidiosis. The disease prevention and medicinal treatment for local chicken beside with chemical medicine, can also be used some medicinal plants as animal medicinal herb containing active compound having the quality as antiviral, antibacterial and immunomodulator.
